Community:
The community nearby La Casa de San Gabriel learned how to create a sustainable garden, and hopefully is inspired to take action in their own homes or nearby communities. They’ll grow stronger if they believe that we need to have these important sustainable living gardens in our lives. Unnecessary rain water wasting coming from the rain gutter flow in our community is the issue I addressed in this.
My project as a whole made a difference in people’s lives by teaching others to be more aware of environmental issues such as water conservation especially out state being in a drought still technically saying. Not only by hearing people in the community say that they learned so much, but also the drought tolerant plants have also impacted the sustainability because of the low maintenance it needs to sustain them.
In all, the barrels, drip system, and garden are making difference in the cost of the water bills used for landscaping by lowering that cost and using the water that comes naturally by rain to water the plants as needed. The garden will last a long time because of the plants chosen that can withstand many different types of weather by only needing low amounts of water.
Audience:
They gain a sense of knowledge about how we need these ways of sustainable living and water conservation ideas in our lives because of how much they can positively affect our lives. They gain overall a better understanding of what it does to help our earth, especially how reusing storm water is natural and can benefit the plants in an area instead of being wasted by flowing without a purpose back into the oceans carrying and collecting more pollutants, which in all effects the marine life in various toxic ways.
Discussions with various people within the community of La Casa and around in other communities are aware because I have told them about my project, and explained more in depth about the concepts within the project as a whole. The website that I shared allows a concrete example of everything I did, and what we can gain out of having a water conservative landscape with a drip irrigation system.
As more and more people begin to understand that it is important to conserve water, the participation of more and more people interested will continue to benefit the earth as a whole.
Self:
Developing a stronger self was a major factor of this project. Early on I knew I wanted to apply my passion for helping the environment in some way, and at the time, the drought was the talk of the town. I couldn’t solve the drought, but I knew I was inspired to make a change. Finding more passions and taking action is something I value and am glad I grew that sense of self. Seeking the issue of the drought and ways to save water was quite a challenge for me. I brainstormed many different ways in which I could possibly come about and from there I created the idea for my project. By reaching out to the nearby community and creating an idea that could benefit both parties, I began the first step to creating a healthy relationship. When I went out to get supplies for the project itself, I talked to the workers and experts who I discussed my plan with and created more relationships. They were so impressed and strengthen the knowledge I had moving forward and now, I have opened up new bridges to these people and companies for future endeavors. In all, I do feel more connected to my community because I have created these relationships and inspired them just as they inspire me. Globally I feel more connected to issues regarding the environment, but knowing I can make a difference drives me to continue taking action. Because of my passion in saving the environment or benefitting it in any way, I was able to apply my skills to create a sustainable, more green environment that is an education tool which I hope will inspire others. I felt empowered to make a difference in the world, and this was a big step, taking action in my own community for any future projects. In all, I became a leader and I plan to take these skills onward in my endeavors.
I believe that because of these new skills, I am able to accomplish anything I set my mind to. The possibilities are endless and the success level is high because when I set my mind up to a challenge, I am a leader, ready to take action.
